Can these linear pots be used for volume control?

I am planning to build one of the preamp/headphone amps from the diy store.
Was wondering if these linear pots would work as volume control or I really need a log pot?
These are 5K pots, and I have 6 of them. Not sure what else these are usefull for.h

Such "conversion" is not more than a kludge,and heavily loads the stage driving it.
In this case it can show as low as 500 ohms or nearby at some settings, very difficult to drive.
Get proper Log pots, and the value required by circuit.

Ideally an Alps 100k log pot with loudness tap.

Doesn't the Baxandall volume control use linear pots? That could be a way to use them.

Does it feel like a wirewound potentiometer when turned? That would not be a good choice for audio.

I used Spectrol volume control on the NS10 preamp in the '70s. Fine pot, never had problems.
Loading the wiper to ground bends the attenuation curve well enough, but it helps if you have a low source impedance.
