With great sadness, I have to report the passing of Jürg Jecklin in November 2021, age 83.
Jürg was the inventor of the Jecklin Float "earspeaker", and the Jecklin disc for recording.

So sad! I met him in Germany a few years ago where he presented his latest 'Float' headphone and amp.
A talented engineer and a very likeable person.
We'll miss him.

Yeah, that's Jürg alright, totally unconventional and eccentric.

And yes, I owned them since the original silver ones, lost them, and replaced them with the later black ones, from 1978, and still going on strong!
For me, these are the best vaccine and cure for the dreaded Harman target curve that has plagued the modern free world for far too long. These just sound right from the moment you put them on. OK, they do need more than "just a few minutes" to charge, the 1st time you fire them up.

Regarding the form, Jürg wanted something to remove the musicians from inside his head, hence the term "earspeaker". Think ultra nearfield monitor.

They also sell the replacement foam. This is critical for the original silver version: mine disintegrated completely after 10 years or so. The later black ones seem to hold up well after 40+ years.
