Too bad this got out of fashion… sort of

I just came across the system 1 from nakamichi, I must say I quite like it.

As stated in the title, too bad nobody seems to go down this rabbit-hole anymore.

I mean, that’s techy product design, and the chassis‘ concepts are quite smart, allowing both an on-desk or in-rack placemt without the huge depth of yesterday’s gear. (Ok, nowadays it’s all pocket-sized but hey!)

We all had system like that, or dreamed about it :)

the one (two, actually) with the reel-tape look gorgious! (image #5)

naka system 1 reminds me a bit of the monolith…

The 680 zx (or something very similar to it) measured better than a revox reel machine... (said my dad who used both) and I loved the mechanical useability of the 480. Sadly, around here no one was able or willing to fix them when they stopped working, and away they were.
Still, I kinda like the system 1's awkwardness though.

Today, modern sound systems have no physical presents. That is to say, they are integrated into our homes, cars, or other environments. No tape or disc drives, no external speakers, no amplifiers, no media shelves, no room space allocated for entertainment electronics. For the moment voice control is marginal so some ~touch panel control and display are needed. Some may consider integrating digital assistants into their bodies but that may be a step too far.

woohoo, nagra, nice, but very vain! (can I say this?)
I think I know what you meant and I quite agree that their appearance seems a bit "pompous", but in my opinion we should also consider the history.
In this regard I think their historical archive is of absolute importance and in my view puts their current aesthetics in a different perspective making me think that their appearance definitely and predominantly has a technical motivation too.
Not to mention that their prices (which I didn't check out) will be completely "suitable" for their fame. ;)

Yes, absolutely! Especially that thing that went to the moon is awesome, and the Nagra III set the route... marvellous stuff. The prices... negligeable side-hustle :)

(note: have you seen that other swiss brand, swissonor? Tubes, comparable techy product-design, sort of...)
