Initially I wanted to build something, but I can't seem to find the components needed for the built. The closest thing so far I gather from this thread are https://www.visaton.de/en/products/2-way-speakers/portrait speakers that @audiorasp suggested.
I have two rows of seating. The fist row has 3 recliner chairs, the middle one being MLP. One side of the fist row is against the wall. The other side has a step up to the second row of seats that are on a platform.
The second row has 4 recliner chairs that are against the wall on either side.
If you are looking to build, and you might run music through them as well, and you have a glue gun and a box cutter knife, along with a dollar store nearby, you can hardly do better than a Cornu style. They make even a cost effective driver shine. They are also easy and a very entertaining build

Not sure it is the best choice, but it does meet the OP's depth requirements. The design forces a sub that runs up a little higher in frequency than I'd personally want. If the design were modified that might be remedied.

The smaller the drivers the slimmer it can be. XRK was the one who gave me suggestions on each build. He is good about responding in that thread.
Yes. Full wood baffle and back is obviously best but a number of these were prototypes. I made them from 20” up to 48”.

These picture frame speakers work pretty fine for nearfield listening. I think they would work well for surround as well. https://www.diyaudio.com/community/threads/dml-system-1-0.395246/post-7257014
Othewise, I would recommend my favorite FaitalPro 3FE22s in a shallow transmission line, can be made from foam board.
Dali Oberon on wall speakers sounded pretty cool on a demo as well, so I could recommend these as well.
